Just Another Site Man, Adam's got to stop changing his address. Every time he does, that means I have to fix my page. Darn him! Darn him to heck! (PS--I haven't had any Blogger problems for a long time.)

Another rosewood tama snare. If he gets the $300 he wants, I'd be surprised. The $250 maybe.

Oh yeah, sorry for no updates this weekend.

Isn't this just the most beautiful pedal you've ever seen! I mean, in an aesthetic way, with that kind of art deco, graceful round motion thing. Cool.

Not much info available on the net about the Ghost foot pedal. (I have to admitt, the name is very cool.) I bought one on ebay for $25, the cheapest I've seen. I've never played one, but wanted one for a long time. My buddy Kevin Risch, drummer for Holy Moley, playes one. About all I could find was this:

"The Original Ghost Pedal features circular 'clock' style springs designed for a smooth action in both directions. This pedal was originally developed by Bob Ramsey of Springfield, Oregon, with the assistance of Shelly Manne."

I've also read somewhere that Mr. Ramsey was in the Navy, and the Ghost is named after the ship on which he was stationed. I've also read somwhere that it is named for its "barely there" feel.

So when you are a Kiwanian, you are expected to invite a guest speaker once a year. Today was my day. So when I met him at the bar of the restaurant, it was obvious he was tanked. When he gave his speech, it was obvious he was tanked. I'm thinking about starting a business that books guest speakers for various organizations. After all, it will be a speaker to remember.

A DRUMMERS PRAYER
The Lord is my drummer; I shall not rush.
He maketh me to 'lay out' in tasteful places;
He leadeth me beside cool meter and tempo changes;
He restoreth my "one" and give me many options in 5/4 and 9/8;
He leadeth me in the right repeats and teachest me the correct accents in bossa nova.
For His name's sake, he makes me immune to the trumpets 'dragging' and the saxes 'rushing'
Yea, though I read through the trickiest road maps, I will fear no train wrecks;
For You are with it; Your ride and Your snare and double bass drums, they comfort me.
You setteth up a solo for me In the presence of mine guitarists; (inspite of the bass player)
You annointeth my lines with 'drive' and good taste; My groove overfloweth.
Surely good feel and swing will follow me thru all the tunes of each set;
And I will dwell 'in the pocket' the whole gig long .......(in spite of the leader)

Last night, WQSS, Coast 102.5, the local classic rock station, played a Blind Albert cut during their blues hour. Now we've been played on the radio before, but it was at 10 at night during a "home grown" hour. This was drive slot (5-6 p.m. for all you non former radio employees) on a 50,000 watt FM station. And it sounded really good in the truck. (We have also been played a lot on college radio. We were once #6 on the Colby College playlist, ahead of Green Day. Sweeeet.

Yup, I did it. I bought Mac's red Ludwig Vistalites. For those of you not familiar with the species, they are see-through acrylic drums. I'll try and put up some before and after photos. And, I've already been invited to join Yahoo's Vistalite club.

So here are some thoughts after my weekend at the North Atlantic Blues Festival. Blind Albert played on the M/V Monhegan, and we got rave reviews. I had many people tell me that we were the best band on the Club Crawl. One person told me they overheard at another bar that we were the band to go hear.

For the last 4-5 years, I've been siting with Blind Al (who is the stage manager for the event) on stage left, where the performers come in. I was able to sit there on Saturday. On Sunday, they decided I wasn't worthy, for whatever reason.

Just an observation. Of all the bass players that I saw at the show, I thought 3 really had the goods. All 3 were black, over six feet, and way over 300 pounds. Moral of the story: all the best blues bass players are huge black guys. Why is that? Man, these guys were good. I love to play under these cats. If there's one thing Billy Rhythm loves (other than wife, daughter, and drums), it's a good bass player.

Andrew Wyeth had a painting called "Sailor's Valentine." If I remember correctly, it was a Salt Sea Rose bush in front of a lighthouse. My sister would love this print. It was, however, never made as prints--at least according to a frame shop here in Rockland Maine, home of the Farnsworth, which is home to many Wyeths. But they may be wrong. I'n doing a search on the web, nothing comes up for this piece. Jamie Wyeth did one called "Ladder Back Chair and Sailor's Valentine," but that''s not it. So I post this, hoping maybe someone can shed some light on it. Or maybe someone has a "print" of this they want to let go.

Susan came back from scrapbookking last night about 12:45. I was sitting on the couch, having just got back from my gig. I heard what I thought was an aircraft carrier comming up the street. Then, the carrier pulled into my driveway. Man, it was loud. I ran out, thinking my wife had driven home with no oil in the car. Then I smelled something, like clutch or stuck brake or something. She hopped out, all strung out. "Something's horribly wrong with my car. It's making awful noises, and it pulls me all over the road." She started to cry, she was so frightened. "I prayed all the way home!" I was able to quickly diagnose the problem. She had a flat. Driver's side front. "How long did you drive it like this?" I asked. "All the way from Suzanne's" she replied; about 6 miles. "How fast did you go?" She said "I could only get it up to about 35." Yowza! 6 miles x 35 mph/flat tire=bent rim.

So I took my truck to Dave for a state inspection. I knew it would need a couple of tires. It also needed some plate light bulbs, and a hole needed to filled with a little fiberglass. (The hole filling process was supposed to take 15 minutes.) I dropped the truck off at 1:15 p.m., and didn't get it back until 7:30! Hello! How long should this take???

Wow, I need to do some postin'! Last night, I finished recording the newest Blind Albert CD, Boyish Man. Man, you should try to play this figure for about six minutes on two Eggz shakers, using the "sticking" rlr, rlr, rlr, rlr, over and over. Man, that's hard to make sound even.

Today at work, I got sick of looking at 3 old junk computers cluttering up the work area. So, I cannabalized them, and made 2 decent working computers. After I was done, JP asked me to take the CD rom out of one (the cd rom that I swipped from his office) I just built. He wants to use it as a server. I told him ok, but that I wanted to name the server. In keeping with the coffee theme at work, Peaberry (as in Tanzanian) was born.

The Jim, the former Mac guru at work, had problems with his G4. So, I dropped a new hard drive in it, made the old drive a slave, formatted, coppied, and moved, until all was well with the world again.

Now I'm home. My drum lesson (I'm teaching, though taking a couple lessons wouldn't hurt me any) canceled. So, I'm posting, listening to Matthew Sweet on 150gm vinyl. And I'm drinking a Courvassier. And downloading tunes for Troy.

So I got a call today from Sonny True. (The link doesn't go to his page, but a page on which he's mentioned.) It seems he thought his drummer might not show for a gig. So he called ole Billy Rhythm. So the Rhythm Man was going to leave work at 6, set up for a dj gig tomorrow, play a drum gig, go home, sleep, go to wedding, dj reception until 3:30, pack up, go home, drop off gear, pick up drums, play drum gig tomorrow night, go home, go to church Sunday morning, act as nursery worker, come home, and have Julia's birthday party. Whew, I'm tired just from typing!

Luckily, their drummer can make it after all.

WHY EVOLUTION IS WRONG [Free Republic]

"Herbert Spencer, the founder of 'Social Darwinism', took these observed events and applied this logic to humans. Since the European race, (white), was obviously more superior to the African race, (black), in areas of speech, culture, and intelligence, Spencer thought evolution had to be the cause..."

Does 'Lucy' prove evolution? For that to be true the truth would be stretched extremely thin. Not even a complete skeleton was found, only a few pieces. Her knee was found 2 miles away from the rest of the body and was 200 feet deeper in a completely different layer of strata. Other parts found were scattered and could not have been from the same creature, unless of course she was hit by a train.

Stolen from On "50 scientific reasons why evolution is wrong."

I bought this stand for my old WFL kit today. This means in order to bring that kit to original standards, all I need is a hihat stand, kick pedal, 8 t-rods and claws, a cymbal L arm, a bass hoop, and a floor tom. And a couple of other things. But I'm almost there!

Also, please note that Shotgun Mike Genova is quite possibly the coolest guy alive. Talented, fun, good with the ladies, and knows as many people as Billy Rhythm, if that's possible. Today, I helped him climb a tower. How do you help? Easy. Wait at the bottom, and call 911 if he falls down dead. this tower was blowing back and forth like a birch tree in a March wind. But he still went up. Man, I'm not afraid of heights, but I am afraid of being 75 feet up, blowing back and forth, while perched on two cigar size foot holds. Not me. I can't think of how much danger pay it would take. OK, maybe I could think of an amount, but it's pretty high.

Tonight for supper... Lobster. A present to my wife from my brother. Having grown up in the lobster capital of the world, it seems strange that I never liked lobster as a kid. Now, as an adult, I eat it every now and again. While down on the dock, I saw my old grade school buddy Lil' Dave. Li'l Dave is now 6'3", and has really bulked up. He's not all skinny scrany like he used to be.
